Hello, World!

Hi Everybody!
[Hi Dr. Nick!]

Welcome to my blog. This is a strange new experience for me, both in the expectation that I'll be able to write enough content to keep active here, and in the realization that it's 2014 and I'm just now starting a blog. To be fair, the reason I've been so late to get involved in content creation (Twitter too!) is that I've always seen it as one of two things:

  • Narcissistic rambling of over-inflated, under-educated egos
  • People who had things to say and knowledge to share

Well, in the past few years, I've been building toward developing informed opinions on domain-specific topics. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm hoping to eventually fall into that second group so I can share my experience, just as the enormous community of developers have so eagerly done for me. I learned everything I know about web development from blog posts and tweets written by people who just wanted to help others.

So. With that said, I suppose I should introduce myself.

I'm a front-end developer currently working at Shopify. I like solving problems and working on projects to make them effective, intuitive and performant. I now blog, tweet and speak.

Contacting me

The best way to contact me is probably through Twitter. I check my email (richgilbank [at] gmail.com), but not often. I'm also terrible at Facebook. #Luddite4Lyfe

Commenting

The comments here are powered by Moot. I'm a little concerned that people have to sign up to post comments, but we'll see how that turns out. With any luck it will help filter out some spam. Please let me know how your experience goes with it - I'm open to alternatives.

Anything else?

Just one more thing. I'd like to thank these people for contributing time and expertise towards helping me get this blog started. Thanks guys!
